Many content marketers attribute their top rankings to the superpowers of Surfer.

“Clearscope makes it easy to create SEO-optimized drafts that meet search intent without keyword stuffing.

Unlike Frase, SurferSEO, and MarketMuse, Clearscope recognizes that “SEO writing tool” can stand in for “SEO writing tools” and vice versa. With those other content optimization tools, you’ll need to include keywords verbatim to increase your content score. That’s often misleading.”

—Lily Ugbaja, Freelance Writer & Content Strategist for SaaS and Martech

While Clearscope is expensive, it packs a lot of value.

4 Simple Tips On Using Writing Tools

Useful as they are, SEO writing tools aren’t perfect. So use them wisely.

  1. Realize a machine cannot turn rubbish content into rubies.

Optimized rubbish is still rubbish, so produce helpful content.
  1. Recognize that a tool is only as good as the person using it.

Learn how to extract maximum value from the tools for the best results
  1. Rely on common sense and specific industry context.

When in doubt, do what suits your industry or context.
  1. Remember, machines make suggestions, not commands.

Don’t be obsessed with writing software and become a slave to it.

Bottom line: tools are helpful but don’t trust them blindly.

Humans make machines. No robot, no matter how brilliant, can compete with a human who is at the top of their game. The software complements writers, but cannot replace them.

There’s no greater thrill than overriding a wayward writing software suggestion. 😉💪😉

  1. Hi QHUBEKANI , thanks for the review of these products. I use Yoast Premium as well as Ubersuggest premium and love the tools. I have been contemplating switching to Ahrefs but this review did not entice me yet to make the switch. I haven’t upgraded Ubersuggest to the next level and that’s another option for me as well. It amazes me how many new tools keep coming on the market.

    1. Hey Lisa,
Yes, the number of tools popping up all over the place is insane. The shiny object syndrome is real 😀! Ahrefs is a key part of my writing workflow. I don’t know what I’d do without it. I’ve only used the free version of Ubersuggest. I guess at the end of the day, it’s about picking tools that align with your goals.

That said, many tools have similar features and do the same thing. Personal preference becomes the deciding vote.
